DESIGNERS AND PEARLS

Donated by K. Otsuki and Co., Japan
The Akoya cultured pearl, an icon. Each of these 15 pearls are extraordinary because of their pure - organic state which in Japanese culture are referred to as Hanadama. In addition there is no bleaching or dyeing. The pearls, ranging in size from 3mm to 7.5mm have superior luster, flawless surface, and perfect symmetry. Their mirror like reflection is enhanced by natural body colors of white and gold/silver overtones and the exceptional and rare blue-referred to by the Japanese as Madama.

The newest Freshwater cultured pearl variety is the Soufflé pearl. The unusual pearl is all about a new culturing process where organic earthen material is used in the nucleation process. This technique allows for large sized pearls; this one is 17.5 x 39.5 MM, but because their hollow on the inside, it’s very lightweight, making these ideal for large scale designs.
